Cuban Frita Burger
The Cuban Frita Burger, also known as "Frita Cubana", is a traditional Cuban dish that originated in the capital city of Havana. This unique burger consists of a meat patty, usually made from a mixture of pork and beef. The meat is often seasoned with peppers and onions and sometimes mixed with chorizo to give it an extra kick of flavor.
Another distinctive feature of the Cuban Frita Burger is its side dish of crispy potato sticks that sit directly on top of the meat. These add a crunchy texture that goes perfectly with the softness of the burger.
The Cuban Frita Burger is often served with ketchup and a special sauce that consists of tomato paste/ketchup and a mixture of spices.
TIP:
Some time can be saved by buying a bag of frit sticks from a chip manufacturer instead of taking on the preparation of the potato sticks yourself.

1.5 tsp garlic powder
1.5 tsp smoked paprika powder
1.5 tsp sweet paprika powder
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp oregano (dried)
Hot sauce as desired
Some oil for frying
Preparation in 7 steps
Mix the ground beef with onion, garlic, smoked paprika and paprika powder, cumin, oregano, 2-3 dashes of hot sauce and salt. Then divide the meat into four equal portions and form into patties.
For topping the burger, some diced onions should be cut.
To create the Frita sauce for the burger, mix together ketchup, onion powder, smoked paprika powder and hot sauce.
To prepare potato strips, start by peeling the potatoes and cutting them into very fine sticks. Then place them in ice-cold water for about 10 minutes and then pat them dry.
Preheat the oven to 180 °C fan. Now brush the burger buns with warm water and bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until golden brown. Heat the hob to around 160 °C and fry the potato sticks in the hot oil until they have a light golden color. Then drain the potato sticks on kitchen paper. Then increase the frying oil to 175-180 °C and fry the sticks again until they are golden brown. Finally, drain on kitchen paper and season with salt.
ATTENTION: Always keep an eye on the hot oil and never leave it unattended on the hob. Make sure that the hot oil does not come into contact with water!
Now fry the patties with a little oil for 2-3 minutes per side. After 1.5 minutes, sprinkle one half with diced onions and a few splashes of hot sauce. Turn the patties over so that the onions are facing down, then fry for another 1.5 minutes until they are done.
Finally, the burger buns are cut open and the cut surfaces are generously covered with Frita sauce. An onion patty is placed on the bottom of each bun. Add a little more hot sauce if desired. The fried potato strips are distributed and finally the top half of the burger bun is placed.
